Update / 2011 & the Victoria

December 31, 2010

In 2011 we will return to the Victoria for a few weeks, revisiting what really was our home for nearly 100 days in 2009 when we trooped around the world on her. The ship has, we are told, changed a bit since last we shipped out with her.

The crabby internet comments which can be found on the right are, we hear, no longer applicable. Cunard re-outfitted its ships with state of the art internet starting with the Queen Mary 2 (which we found highly satisfactory in 2009) and then re-fitted the Queen Victoria after we had left the ship. Supposedly passengers can now get wireless internet in their cabins, and supposedly it moves quite a lot faster. Since we experienced good internet on the QM2 we would be surprised if this proves to be untrue. The price, however, has stayed astronomical unless you are one of the frequent sailors at which time the cost drops to $0 for 2, 4 or 8 hours.

And, if they offer that 3 pm stair climb where I did in my ankle during the 2009 voyage, will I be there? Yeah, yeah. That ankle has healed and it’s only 156 steps, ten decks, upanddown four times. What’s to hate, huh?

Us in 2009, home from the sea. We wore the same clothes on the day we left and the day we returned from slooping around the world for 104 days in 2009.

So: — Will be we wear these same clothes to depart and return to/from The Queen Victoria again? Get a grip: We’re not the Griswald’s in National Lampoon’s Vacation. We burned them.
